Job Summary: As a Design/Manufacturing Engineer at CEM, you will play a critical role in designing sheet metal and machined components and systems that meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sheet metal design, proficiency in CAD software (Solid Works), and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sheet Metal Component Design:
- Develop detailed designs for sheet metal components and assemblies based on project requirements and engineering specifications.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Prototyping and Testing:
- Work closely with the prototyping and testing teams to create and evaluate prototypes of sheet metal designs.
- Analyze and interpret test data to refine and improve designs.
- Material Selection and Optimization:
- Collaborate with the procurement team to select appropriate materials for components.
- Optimize designs for material efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Manufacturability and Process Optimization:
- Ensure that designs are manufacturable by collaborating with manufacturing and production teams.
- Optimize designs for manufacturing processes, including laser cutting, welding, and forming.
- CAD Modeling and Documentation:
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Generate documentation, including design specifications and bills of materials.
- Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and product development, to address design challenges and achieve project goals.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise.
- Cost Analysis and Value Engineering:
- Collaborate with cost estimation teams to analyze the cost implications of different design alternatives.
- Implement value engineering principles to optimize designs for cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related experience.
- Proficiency in CAD software - SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal materials, fabrication processes, and industry standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
